about

"Invent Yourself" represents a growth both musically and stylistically from the two albums that preceded it, yet also has a light-hearted and youthfully idealistic quality that differentiates it from the albums that followed. The title is taken from two different sources - a Syd Barrett biography and a Jack Kerouac documentary, where it is said that both they and artists in general "invent themselves". Released in the early days of social media, it's also the first album that people responded to beyond our immediate circle of friends. The title song divides the album in half, with the first half containing vocal songs and the second instrumental, similar in sequence to John Frusciante's album "Niandra Lades and Usually Just a T-Shirt" & "Low"by David Bowie. Although not conceived that way, it seemed appropriate when we chose the track order.

Recorded when we still mailed 4-track cassette mixes back and forth for overdubs, through remastering we have returned the sound quality to something closer to what was originally envisioned, before tape hiss and cassette mixdowns muddied the end product. Of all the albums from this era, "Invent Yourself" is probably the one that stands out the most.
